How to Measure For New Wrestling Mats for Your Wrestling Room.

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

Before you start measuring, make sure you have the necessary tools on hand:

  • Measuring Tape or Laser : A reliable measuring tape is essential for accurate measurements.

  • Notebook and Pen: Keep track of your measurements as you go.

  • If Using a Tape Measure Assistants: Having someone to help you with longer measurements can make the process smoother.

Step 2: Clear the Space in the Wrestling Room

Ensure that the wrestling room is clear of any obstacles or equipment that could interfere with your measurements. 

Step 3: Measure Wrestling Rooms Walls and Openings  Length and Width

Start by measuring the length and width of the wrestling room. Use the measuring tape or laser to determine the distance from one end of the room to the other. Measure both dimensions in feet and inches. Write down the measurements in your notebook.

Step 4: If Adding Wall Padding 

Measure the length and height of each wall individually. This will be important when planning the placement of wrestling mats, wall padding, and any other equipment.

Make sure to get total wall height above the wall padding to add features such as decals or overhead scoring systems. Measure from the floor to the ceiling, again in feet and inches.

Step 5: Account for Obstacles

Take note of any permanent fixtures in the room, such as support columns, doorways, windows, pillars or columns. Measure the distance from these obstacles to the nearest wall to account for them in your layout plans.

Note: If they are in the middle of the room make sure to measure the distance from each face of the column to the next wall.

If you plan to install wrestling mats, be sure to measure the space required to get sections of wrestling mat into your wrestling room. Mats typically come in all different dimensions, so factor these into your room layout.

If your wrestling room will include problem areas such as mirrors, storage cabinets, or seating areas, measure each item and plan to pad them with barrier pads for large areas such as garage doors or large windows and classic barrier pads to make a small knee wall.  in your wrestling room

 

Step 9: Double-Check Your Measurements
