CAN MY MAT BE RECONDITIONED?
While some mats can be reconditioned to extend their useful life, there are some that are beyond the point of repair. It’s very important to inspect your mat carefully to determine whether it can be repaired.
Please review these guidelines carefully before submitting your Reconditioning Order Form. If Resilite receives a mat that is unable to be reconditioned, it will be the customer's responsibility to pay for half of the return shipping costs.
INSPECT BOTH SIDES OF THE MAT
Unroll mat in an area that will allow both sides to be inspected.
THICKNESS OF MAT FOAM
Is the mat a minimum of 1" thick, or are there compressed areas? If the mat has compressed areas, it should not be used as it is unsafe.
If there are many areas where the foam is compressed or collapsed, the mat cannot be reconditioned. If there are deep wrinkles on an area of the mat, that part of the mat should not be reconditioned. Resilite can trim off such areas, but depending on the trimming required the mat may no longer be large enough for competition purposes.
RESILIENCY OF MAT FOAM
Does the mat feel resilient when you drop to a knee? Many older mats become very hard due to age and years of compression and will no longer meet ASTM standards for g-max values. If your mat is extremely hard we recommend that you replace rather than recondition it. Reconditioning will soften the mat but only temporarily; it will return to its hardened feel after a few months.
SIZE OF MAT
Measure your mat.If the mat is used for competition, it must have a 28' wrestling area and a 5' protection area outside the wrestling circle. The mat size should be a minimum of 38' x 38' to comply with the National Federation of State High School Assoc. Due to mat re-squaring, edge trimming and resurfacing, your reconditioned mat will be slightly smaller. All vinyl-coated wrestling mats experience an additional shrinkage of 2%-4% due to the resurfacing process.
VINYL COATING CONDITION
Make sure the vinyl coating is intact and that raw foam is not exposed. If there are large areas where the foam is deteriorated and the vinyl is missing, the mat may not be able to be reconditioned.
BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR MAT
If the mat appears to be in poor condition, it is important to send us photographs and a detailed description of the mat prior to ordering sending it to the factory. You can include the information with your order form, or contact us to discuss.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It is helpful for us to know the mat size and what it looks like on both sides. If possible, please take photos showing each side of the mat or draw up a sketch (it does not have to be to scale) of each side of the mat, including size, layout, colors, location of logos & lettering).
