The Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence honors Pennsylvania businesses and organizations that put in place projects that tackle environmental problems and help build new businesses, enhance the bottom line and engage residents in a renewed commitment to investing in their communities.
Resilite™ Sports Products, Inc., the world’s largest mat manufacturer, is being honored for their innovative projects that demonstrate their environmental stewardship while promoting economic development in Pennsylvania.
In January 2006, Resilite implemented an energy efficiency project that has already reduced the company’s fuel oil consumption by approximately 20,100 gallons per year. The project included upgrading its boiler by applying insulation to the feed and return lines and condensation tanks. This resulted in 3,154 pounds of sulfur dioxide, 482 pounds of nitrogen oxides, 99 pounds of carbon monoxide (CO) and 41 pounds of PM10 being eliminated.
“Pennsylvania is working with businesses and residents to advance innovative measures that encourage new investment in the commonwealth, enhance our energy independence and ensure the highest standards of environmental protection and public health,” Governor Rendell said.
Resilite also purchased two APUs to further reduce fuel consumption for it fleet of tractor trailor trucks when idling. The estimated fuel savings will be 2,160 gallons per year. Resilite's success demonstrates there are cost effective ways to make capital improvements that reduce energy consumption and harmful air emissions.
“The connection between protecting our natural resources and creating a better quality of life in Pennsylvania is evident in each one of the projects honored by this award,” Environmental Protection Secretary Kathleen A. McGinty said.
