Reconditioning: My Mats

Rolled Mat

Some mats can be reconditioned by Resilite to extend the life of a mat. However, there are some mats that are beyond the point of repair. If Resilite receives a mat to be reconditioned and Resilite cannot recondition the mat, it will be the customer's responsibility to pay for half of the shipping costs. It is very important to inspect your mats to see if your mats can be repaired.

Inspection of Both Sides of the Mats

Unroll mats in an area so that both sides can be inspected.

Thickness of Mat Foam

Is the mat a minimum of 1" thick or are there compressed areas? If the mat has compressed areas it should not be used. It is unsafe. If there are many areas where the foam is compressed or collapsed, the mat can not be reconditioned. If there are deep wrinkles on an area of the mat, that part of the mat should not be reconditioned. However, Resilite can trim off this portion. Note: due to this excessive trimming that the mat may not be large enough for competition purposes.

Resiliency of Mat Foam

Does the mat feel resilient when you drop to a knee? Many older mats become very hard due to age and years of compression. They will not meet ASTM standards for g-max values. If your mat is extremely hard it is recommended that you replace the mat. Reconditioning will only soften the mat temporarily and after a few months the mat will return to its original feel.

Size of Mats

Measure your mat. If the mat is used for competition, it must have a 28' wrestling area and a 5' protection area outside the wrestling circle. The mat size should be a minimum of 38' x 38' to comply with the National Federation of State High School Assoc. When Resilite reconditions your mats, due to resquaring and respraying the mat, all vinyl coated wrestling mats will experience shrinkage (5 - 7%).

Vinyl Coating Condition

Make sure the vinyl coating is intact and that raw foam is not exposed. If there are large areas where the foam is deteriorated and the vinyl is missing the mat may not be able to be reconditioned.

Prior to Returning Mats to Factory

If the mat appears to be in poor condition, it is important to send us photographs and a detailed description of the mat prior to returning it to the factory. This can be sent along with the order or e-mailed to resilite@resilite.com

Additional Information May Be Needed:

It helps to know what the mat looks like on both sides and the size of it. If possible – Please take photos showing each side of the mat. If photos are not possible you may draw up a sketch of each side of the mat (size of mat, layout, colors used, location of logos & lettering). The sketch doesn't have to be to scale.
